I think I need to explain where I was coming from on the last post about christian books. I have a hard time articulating my thoughts on this...

I believe that Truth is universal and pure. So if I have Truth in my left hand, and untruth in my right, I can't get past their incompatibility. It seems that many Christian authors write about doctrines that, when broken down to their foundations, are not compatible.

When I read lots of Christian books, the disparities between the ideas are the grievous for me to process - or care to process. That's when I put it all to the side and return the Bible, only.

It's not that I don't read Christian books. I just often feel more enriched when I'm reading the Bible and non-religious books. Not always, but often.

Is that more clear?

frankly, i dislike reading christian books. they all disagree with each other, and they almost all have unbiblical ideas sprinkled through. i'm sick of reading things that are intended for spiritual growth that end up confounding you.

reading a christian book is like stocking eggs at a grocery store. you have to check every egg as you go to make sure no egg is broken. likewise, when i read a christian book i feel like it is filled with broken eggs i must discard.

generally, i don't like reading christian books.

some exceptions:

1. the lotus and the cross - ravi zacharias

2. thoughts from the mount of blessings - ellen white

3. endless falling in love - ty gibson

4. cost of discipleship - good ol' however-you-spell-his-name DB

why must there be 1001 interpretations of the bible? why does everyone make it so complex? most of it is utter bs.

Blink

So I just finished Malcolm Gladwell's Blink last night. It was so good I want to start the Tipping Point right away, but the other part of me wants to finish some other books that I've started first. So, we'll see what happens.

Blink is about the workings of the subconscious, for good and for bad. It is broadly and deeply researched, and well presented. Gladwell hops from Marriage studies to the Music Business to War Games to Morse Code. It's rather amazing, and randomly fluid. It's 250-ish pages, so jump in if you're curious!
