Every Once In A While

...you hear an artist whose music connects with the depths of your heart. I've been listening to Adam Pasion's album almost every day for the past three weeks, in part or in whole.

My song of the week is definitely "Run By Faith", from his latest album O, Hear The Rattling. I can't find a video of it online, so here is a snippet of the lyrics:

"You be the river, I'll be the tree by your side
My leaves will not whither, my branches never die
Deeply rooted, I shall not be moved
And in my season I will bear great fruit"

I've been at least a little bit sick four of the six days this week. Today wasn't so grand. I've listened to many songs to keep my attention away from my nausea and headache as it waxed and waned repeatedly through the day. I keep coming back to Adam's album.

I also listened to an EP that Tommy, Patrick, Tony Kevin and I recorded the evening before our tour. It was an impromptu session of singing hymns. Tony wants to release it, so maybe we'll share it sometime. It's raw, but it's honest. We weren't even paying attention to the fact that we were recording ourselves. Because of the nature of the music, it's rather intimate. I'd enjoy sharing it, but I'd also like to keep it private. We'll see.

Songs: "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing", "How Deep The Father's Love For Us", "Nearer, Still, Nearer", "Thy Mercy", "'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus".

Anyhow... I keep thinking I'm about to fall asleep, but it has yet to happen.

Goodnight.

Bedtime Treat

A little snack before bed: Rooibos tea from the lovely Anna Hurley, and Cadbury's Chocolate with Crunchie Bits from my dad that he picked up during his recent trip to England.

And, listen. Can you hear it? The Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed, fifth movement: "The Afternoon: a) Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?) b) (Evening) Time To Get Away". A title a little contrived, I know, but still enjoyable.

Tim Tam SLAM

In Australia, where I am not from, there is a chocolate biscuit called a Tim Tam. There's a routine to eating a Tim Tam called a Tim Tam Slam. It goes like this:

Step 1: Heat up a mug of milk. Put it on a saucer with two tim tams.

Step 2: Bite off the ends of the tim tam.

Step 3: Use it as a straw for the milk.

Step 4: When you feel the milk reach your tongue, suck the whole Tim Tam into your mouth and feel the chocolately goodness melt in your mouth.

(My well-traveled, novel-writing friend Stephanie introduced me to this treat.)

Song of the Week: "Life In A Glasshouse"

What do you get when you mix paranoia, dixieland jazz and Radiohead? An excellent song.

home

I can pack a bag for a month in five minutes, but when I return home unpacking is slow. I'm more accustomed to living outside of a suitcase.

I'm home, and tomorrow I work at 9am. I'm babysitting Jonah, age 5, and homeschooling him. I'm so excited to see him again. I've been with him for over three years. It's been remarkable watching him grow. He has a precious heart.

I suppose I'm short on words. Thought I had more to say.

I have to readjust to being at home again. This is our first tour ever from which we've returned to a home. All our other tours we had nowhere to come home to. Now we do. And it's quite nice. Still, it's hard finding your groove again - maintaining a responsible self-employed work pace.

You also get the post-tour blues. For the past 3+ weeks I've had at least four other people around me constantly - really, ALL the time. It's great. But it's difficult to come out of.

C'est la vie. And a good one at that.

I'm home. Hope to see familiar faces over this next week!
