If every bass line that existed had to disappear and never be heard again, but one could stay, I would vote for James Jamerson's work on Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made to Love Her". The greatest line ever.
Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius are virtuosos, and I look up to them, but they've never played anything as beautifully as Jamerson in "I Was Made to Love Her".
When it comes down to it, music is about the soul and melody - more than it will ever be about the mind-blowing tricks.
