The Best Thing That Could Happen To MySpace

Here's a thought... tell me what you think.

If the idea that 'MySpace is dead' became truth in the eyes of marketers, they wouldn't buy the advertising space on the main page. This would mean that major label bands would no longer debut their entire albums on MySpace a week before release. It would also mean that the cost of advertising space for the front page would drop significantly, because it wouldn't be seen as valuable by those who are able (but now no longer willing) to pay the big bones.

This would either propel the MySpace music label on our laps... oooor, perhaps it would make the site more amicable towards independent musicians - as it once was. And if the independent musician became the focus of MySpace again, it would give reason for serious music listeners to stick around, or return. The perceived death of MySpace would be the beginning of it's life.

Otherwise, I'm rather certain it will die - really die - in the next year or two.

To be honest, myspace be coming to a dead but there will always be the next "big" thing there to replace it. Before myspace what did we have? Journals? Livejournal anyone.. Before livejournal we have and still have e-mail as a way of communicating with others. Myspace is however a extremely usefull tool for musicians. How many people have come to one of GV's shows after listening to your music on myspace or even better by having one of your friends mention you by word of mouth. There are a lot of people that don't get the opportunity to see their favorite band live. My favorite band currently is Muse. They are not planning on coming to seattle in the near future so the only way I can hear them is thru cd and I surely am lucky that they came out with a live cd.

The whole myspace ambiance has gradually becoming a ".net" type network instead of a social network. The trend I see is that more people get on myspace just for music, high quality movie trailers and stuff, rather than msging friends. Because there are other social sites catching up and exceeding. I think myspace would become a dead if it stays labeling itself mainly as a social network. However it is very resourceful as for entertainment. I say it needs remodeling both on target market and technology. Just a thought =)

hmmm. interesting.

yes, it's almost as though the myspace administration hasn't even thought about their target market. maybe they just assume that since they are a "social networking" site, their target is everyone. -> they don't have to be specific.
