Heart in a Cage

I've been on a Chris Thile, Sondre Lerche, Jack White kick lately. It's been delicious.

Top albums are:

Punch Brothers Punch
Chris Thile & Mike Marshall Live Duets
Chris Thile Deceiver
Sondre Lerche Phantom Punch
Sondre Lerche Two Way Monologue
White Stripes Icky Thump
Raconteurs Consolers of the Lonely (which should get high points just for the title!)

I'd love to see Punch Brothers and the Raconteurs play the same show.

Oh... "Heart in a Cage" is a Strokes song, but Chris Thile covers it on How to Grow a Women from the Ground. Go listen!

The Best Thing That Could Happen To MySpace

Here's a thought... tell me what you think.

If the idea that 'MySpace is dead' became truth in the eyes of marketers, they wouldn't buy the advertising space on the main page. This would mean that major label bands would no longer debut their entire albums on MySpace a week before release. It would also mean that the cost of advertising space for the front page would drop significantly, because it wouldn't be seen as valuable by those who are able (but now no longer willing) to pay the big bones.

This would either propel the MySpace music label on our laps... oooor, perhaps it would make the site more amicable towards independent musicians - as it once was. And if the independent musician became the focus of MySpace again, it would give reason for serious music listeners to stick around, or return. The perceived death of MySpace would be the beginning of it's life.

Otherwise, I'm rather certain it will die - really die - in the next year or two.

OUCH

I've been reading "Where Is God When It Hurts?" by Philip Yancey the last couple days. It's amazing so far. I've read him before, but it's never been this good. I highly recommend it.

Busy Bees

I've been rather busy lately and haven't been posting here much. Been doing a whole lot of blogging at garagevoice.com, and that's been taking precedence. Aside from that, my whole life has been hectic and has kept me away from publicized personal reflection.

It's important to stop. Even in the middle of things. Even if you let people down. Even if it means that you don't do what you really want to do. It's important to stop when you need to stop.

At the beginning of the week my body yelled at me loud and clearly. I need to stop. But I'm in the middle of recording our album - a dream come true - so I have to over-compensate and stop more of the other things that I would otherwise do. Yesterday it included not going to my friend's birthday dinner. Tonight it includes not seeing a bunch of my friends at UW. It's not what I want to do, but it's what I need to do.

c'est la vie.

But may I not convince you my days are dreadful. My life has been wonderful. Just burdened in the meanwhile.

Goodbyes are Hard

Thanks, everyone, for your prayers and comforting words.
