I've been listening to an EP by Briertone, a California band. The album is five tracks, and not much more than 15 minutes. It's so good I often play it back to back.
The first track has some strong lyrics:
Let us drink until we cannot think
Let us be numb, numb to the tips of our brains
Let us be numb to this minute, to this hour
Let us be deaf to Your voice, and dead to Your power
Cheers to our deaths and to our falls
We lift our glasses to it all
Cheers to what's wrong and what feels right
We see no black we see no white
But the best song is track number three. It's based on Revelation chapter one, when John first sees Jesus. The culmination of the album is at the end of the song:
I am He which is, which was and is to come
Even though it's grammatically incorrect, it's beautifully set to the melody. Grammar doesn't matter too much in song.
Well, go check them out. Especially if you like hearing youth rocking the banjo (no, not caressing it sufjan-style).

this coming from you makes me feel really happy! sometimes i have grammar issues in my songs because melody and flow always wins for me...but i wonder if it offends smart people like you. (:
